Compassionate Care of Shelby County currently has over 200 volunteers who contribute their time and talents to help make our clinic one of the most successful of its kind in the state. We are thankful for the skilled professionals who continue to offer their expertise in the medical, dental, and pharmaceutical fields. We are also proud of the many volunteers who keep our office running smoothly and efficiently.
"I first started volunteering at CCSC because I had the time.I kept volunteering because I enjoyed it and felt like I was really helping others. As a volunteer I have been given great training and instruction from the staff and volunteers. No one ever put me down because I didn’t quickly grasp something and everyone was very patient with me as I learned how CCSC operated. There is always someone you can ask if you have a question and I never feel afraid to do so.When I come in I’m greeted by smiles and hellos; the staff and volunteers genuinely care about you.The schedule is flexible and you don’t get a “guilt trip” if you can’t volunteer at a certain time. The best part of volunteering is that you have the opportunity to help people who have a pressing need. It’s such a wonderful feeling to know you made a positive impact in someone’s day and life.Another thing I like about volunteering is having fun."
"I love that CCSC is a faith-based organization. We often have the opportunity to pray with other staff, volunteers, and patients. I remember the first time I was volunteering and someone asked me to turn off the phone for a moment, step away from the front desk, and come pray for a patient with a group of other staff and volunteers. I was shocked that we would make time like that to pray for a patient. I’m so glad we are able to do that…a simple prayer often helps someone so much more than just taking a message, scheduling an appointment, or seeing to their physical needs. I’ve often seen a patient just cry as we pray for them…they are always so grateful we take the time. God always takes the time for people in need and I’m glad we make it a priority to take our needs to Him."
"Volunteering at CCSC has really opened my eyes to the extent of the need for healthcare in Shelby County. Although I volunteer at other organizations, I find that there are so many people who come to CCSC desperate for help. These are people who, through no fault of their own, have lost their jobs or their insurance and are grateful to receive the high level of care that CCSC provides. Being a volunteer means spending my time helping my friends and neighbors until the economy turns around and they can get back on their feet."
"Not being a healthcare professional, I didn’t think there was much I could do as a volunteer at CCSC. Boy was I wrong! Although the doctors, nurses, dentists, and other professionals work directly with patients, there is still a lot to do in terms of record-keeping, answering phone calls, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and helping people access the information they need to get well and stay healthy. I’ve learned so much from the patients and from fellow volunteers, and I’m constantly telling my friends how CCSC represents community involvement at its best."
