COMPASSIONATE CARE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Our Board of Directors governs the operation and fiscal management of Compassionate Care.  Individuals from all walks of life represent our community's voice.  The professional background of the Board is also diverse and includes professionals in medicine, education, law, finance, and those with careers in the service sector.  The Board meets monthly to discuss and vote on major decisions affecting Compassionate Care's financial and administrative management.  All of the Board members are committed to Compassionate Care's mission statement and provide financial support.  Board members also participate in committees that further help manage clinical operations:
   →Fundraising and Marketing
   →Personnel and Credentialing
   →Finance and Audit
   →Practice and Quality Assurance

Executive Board Chair, Dr. Lisa Alvetro, personifies compassionate care.  In addition to being adventurous and energetic in the public service arena, Lisa knows no boundaries when she envisions the future of Compassionate Care of Shelby County.  “Obviously an area close to my heart is the dental clinic.  I would love to see it continue to serve patients and to expand the treatment we are able to perform.  I am also hopeful that the optometry clinic will be open very soon.”  After graduating from Youngstown State University, Lisa earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Ohio State University and a Master of Science in Dentistry from Case Western Reserve University.  Currently practicing orthodontics in Sidney, her lecture schedule allows her to interact with orthodontists and patients throughout the United States and internationally.  Dr. Alvetro has organized several dental mission trips to remote villages in Tanzania, Africa and has been instrumental in building the Angel House Orphanage and providing for the children of the orphanage.  Her courage, empathy, and concern for others is what makes people smile.

All community-oriented organizations need to focus on raising funds in order to remain viable.  And leadership in this arena requires the skills of someone who is organized, caring, and dedicated.  Deborah Wolfinger is just that leader.  Currently Board Vice-Chair of Compassionate Care, Debbie has volunteered and served as board member and President for many nonprofit organizations.   For several of these organizations, she has focused on fund-raising to promote community awareness for the many services that Shelby County provides.  As a graduate of Otterbein College with a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Dayton, Deborah retired after teaching more than 30 years with the last 23 in Sidney.  “Having taught under-privileged children almost exclusively, I learned that their parents needed a hand up, not a hand out.  Making sure that parents have access to high quality health care is an essential step toward making a positive difference in the lives of children and families.”

Wearing two different hats enables Medical Co-Director, Dr. Tom Schwieterman, to provide information to patients and staff at Compassionate Care regarding the most current medical device technology, medical care, and care delivery.  As a fourth-generation family physician and graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, he has 12 years of experience serving the Maria Stein community.  He also has a degree in Systems Analysis from Miami University and is currently the Director of Research and Development at Midmark Corporation, one of the most respected providers and suppliers of medical equipment and technology in the world.  Tom’s background and belief system allow him to pursue his deep desire to help people and contribute to a cause that is all about “what is RIGHT with healthcare.”  At Compassionate Care, he is allowed to sidestep wasteful bureaucracy and place all the emphasis where it truly belongs:  with the patient and with God.  Tom’s talents, training, and commitment ensure that the healthcare provided at CCSC is current, efficient, effective, and compassionate.

As a Christian physician wanting to use his skills as a service to God, Eric Newman, M.D. serves as the Medical Co-Director for Compassionate Care of Shelby County.  An honor graduate of Oral Roberts University School of Medicine and Board Certified in both Family Practice and Emergency Medicine, Dr. Newman uses his clinical skills and medical knowledge to provide ongoing patient care and supervision for Compassionate Care.  He has been part of the medical community in Shelby County for 25 years, and is currently the Assistant Director for Emergency Services at Wilson Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Newman has also served on several medical outreaches, providing care to underserved people in many parts of the world.  He attends Only Believe Ministries Christian Center.

As a non-voting member and Executive Director of the Board, Teresa Ditmer works with all Compassionate Care Board members, Trustees, Staff, Patients, and Volunteers to ensure quality and continuity of care.  Her experience in critical care, medication management, trauma outreach coordination, nursing team management, diabetic clinics, post-op cardiac care, basic life support, and a host of awards in each area make her an invaluable member of this team.  She maintains professional membership in several state and national organizations, and was the winner of the 2008 Volunteer Service Alumni Award from Wright State University's School of Nursing for developing and implementing free healthcare services for the uninsured and underserved in Shelby County, Ohio.
Erik Blaine earned his law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law in 2006 and is an attorney at the law firm Kerrigan, Boller, Goettemoeller & Beigel Co., L.P.A.   In addition to his private practice, Erik serves the citizens of Shelby County as an Assistant Prosecutor, bringing criminals to justice and educating teens in the local schools about the dangers of bullying and sexting.    Along with his membership on the CCSC Board, Erik is also a member of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery's Associate Board and lead attorney for the Dayton Bar Association's Wills for Heroes program, providing free estate planning document preparation for first responders who serve our community.   Erik is actively involved in several other community organizations and has a long history of commitment to public service with groups like the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Kiwanis Club, Miami Valley H.Y.P.E. (Helping Young Professionals Emerge), and Habitat for Humanity.   "I've been able to observe the benefits of CCSC and am grateful for the opportunity to help our most vulnerable citizens."

God…family…community comprise the most important factors in Steve Brabbin’s involvement in Compassionate Care of Shelby County.  As a graduate of the University of Charleston, West Virginia with an MBA in healthcare administration, Steve has 19 years of experience as a respiratory therapist and healthcare professional and is currently the Director of Cardiopulmonary Services at Wilson Memorial Hospital.  “I spent all but the last 4 years of my life in West Virginia, and I have seen the toll that inadequate healthcare services can take on a community and its people.”  That is why as a board member, Steve is eager to help make a difference for the residents of Shelby County.  He feels once people are provided with the help they need during tough times, they pay that same kindness forward to others.

“It’s about Relationships!”   So says Eric Ditmer when he speaks of the Compassionate Care success story.  A retired dairy farmer, Eric has served as a board member for The Shelby County Dairymen’s Association, the Shelby County Farm Bureau, and the Shelby County Historical Society.  He is currently serving his third elected term on the Hardin-Houston Board of Education.  “My love for my wife, my family, and Shelby County have a lot to do with my involvement in the creation of Compassionate Care.”  When a concerned and enthusiastic group of people use their talents in a variety of ways to help their community, hope is tangible, and dignity is preserved.  Eric feels blessed to be among such a great group of people who sustain the success of CCSC.

“When I was approached to consider a position on the Board, I weighed my options and decided my compassion, pastoral experience, knowledge of the inner workings of a 501c3 organization, public relations abilities, and my desire to be a positive influence in the community would serve Compassionate Care of Shelby County well.”  As a motivated member of the Board, Pastor Phyllis Doseck uses her experience in public relations to increase public awareness.  She is co-founder of Only Believe Ministries Christian Center where she has served as co-pastor for over 28 years.  She understands the needs of a volunteer-based organization and knows how to make people feel good about themselves and about CCSC, whether they be patients, staff, volunteers, or donors.  Her experience in the television industry has given her the opportunity to produce a video presentation for CCSC which has been used to demonstrate the enormous impact CCSC has had on our community and the ways in which volunteers and donors can contribute to its ongoing success.

Lynda Newman’s commitment to ministry is what influenced her decision to become a board member at Compassionate Care of Shelby County.  As a former teacher, she recognizes the importance of instilling spiritual truths in the hearts of children and helping teens develop their abilities and talents to serve God.  This focus led her to years of leadership positions in children’s ministries, as well as being the co-founder and former director of the CAST (Children’s Academy Salvation Team), and an executive committee member for Impact World Tour’s ministry in Shelby County.  Lynda has also joined her husband, Dr. Eric Newman, on various outreaches to underserved people in other parts of the world.  She currently oversees the prayer ministry at Compassionate Care.

Laura Barley earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance from The Ohio State University.  She has been active in banking for 30 years, currently as Vice President of Commercial Lending with U.S. Bank in Sidney.  She has served on many non-profit boards and has assisted at Faith Formation Classes at her parish over the years.  “God has truly blessed me with a caring family and success in life.”  Raised in a family with God and the importance of serving community has instilled in Laura the desire to help those less fortunate.  “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be able to work with such a dedicated group of people and to assist in furthering the wonderful work being done at CCSC.”  As Secretary of the Executive Committee, Laura’s dependable and accurate recording of the proceedings at each meeting contributes to the ongoing achievements that CCSC and our community enjoy.

Steve Mascho’s experience covers a broad range of leadership skills and task-oriented projects.  He worked as an attendant nurse and aide in a state mental hospital to put himself through college at Eastern Michigan University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.  He received his Master’s Degree and Educational Specialist Degrees from the University of Toledo and taught 8 years at the elementary and high school levels.  After leaving education for 14 years and establishing himself as a private contractor for new home construction and remodeling, he rediscovered his original goal of becoming a school Superintendent.  It was in this capacity that Steve realized he could have the greatest impact on student lives and the educational system that would prepare them for life.  “I am dedicated to helping provide people with equitable opportunities for their social, economic, and medical needs,” he says.  “I am also committed to be a conduit of service to people who have a need.”  Steve has been Superintendent of Fairlawn Local Schools for the past 12 years and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Western Ohio Computer Organization.

Anne Eiting Klamar, M.D. received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and graduated with her doctoral degree from the Ohio State University. She is also a graduate of the Owner/President Management program at Harvard Business School. Several years ago, she made the difficult decision to leave her medical practice and become the President and CEO of Midmark Corporation, one of the world’s leading private companies providing medical and dental products, services, and technology. As both a physician and business leader, Anne is passionate about making a positive difference, not only for Midmark’s teammates and global customers, but for those in our local community. “Compassionate Care is an organization that gives me the opportunity to live this passion and to make a difference in the lives of those who are not as fortunate as we are.” Her medical and business expertise in the field of healthcare allow her to do just that. “I am very grateful for the opportunity to serve and learn as a Board member of Compassionate Care of Shelby County.”
